A WOODLAND visitor centre will become a winter wonderland tomorrow (December 14).
Bowlees Visitor Centre in Teesdale, County Durham, will host a seasonal fair featuring roasting chestnuts, wreath and decoration making workshops and stories around a Christmas tree.
The centre, which is run by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership, will be decked out in fairy lights and forest foliage, complete with roaring log-burning stoves inside the former Methodist Chapel.
Outside there will be a wintery children’s trail through the adjoining woodland.
Kaye Jemmeson, from the AONB Partnership, who is organising the event, said: “One of the nicest things to do at Christmas is to take time out from the shopping and the hectic preparations with a day of nothing but fun.
“At our Winter Wonderland event we’ve got all the things that I hope make Christmas merry, no matter how old you are – and that includes a lot of glitter.”
The events start at 10am and will run until the centre closes at 4pm.
Seasonal stories read by Jim Grant will take place every house starting at 11am with the day being closed by a carol concert by the newly-formed AONB Partnership choir.
Admission is free but for some of the activities, such as the wreath and decorations workshops, there will be a small charge for materials used.
