RESIDENTS are being warned to be vigilant when answering the door to cold callers following a suspicious incident.
Cleveland Police has issued the reminder after an incident was reported of suspicious men purporting to be from a local housing organisation in Guisborough when they attended an address last Thursday (December 5), where they asked for access and when the householder asked for identification, they said they would return the next day. The two men then left in a small white van.
PC Kim Catcheside from Guisborough neighbourhood policing team said: βIt is important that members of the public are cautious when answering the door to cold callers. People should always ask for identification, and if necessary could even telephone the organisation or company concerned to ask if they can confirm that the person is genuinely from the organisation.β
Enquiries have ruled out that the men genuinely attended the address on behalf of the organisation.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact PC Kim Catcheside from Guisborough Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
