POLICE are trying to trace two suspects following the theft of a bicycle from a busy North Yorkshire high street.

The bike was stolen from outside the Boyes store in Northallerton at 12.50pm on Thursday, December 12.

The black mountain bike, which had been left unlocked, has Carrera written in silver on the frame, a Muddy Fox rear mudguard and Cateye lights on the front and rear.

The first person Northallerton officers need trace is described as a teenage boy wearing a light coloured woollen hat, a light blue hoodie and tracksuit bottoms with a stripe down the side.

The second teenage boy had a shaved head and was wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark combat trousers and trainers.

PC Doug Miller, of Northallerton Safer Neighbourhood Team, asked anyone who witnessed the theft or recognise the description of the teenagers to contact police straight away. He would also like to speak to anyone who thinks they have seen the bike since it was taken.

PC Miller reminded people to lock their bikes securely, even if only leaving them unattended for a short time and to securely mark their property.

He said: “Owners can also help us to return their property to them when we recover it by taking a number of simple steps. They should make sure that they know the bicycle’s frame number or have the frame stamped with their postcode and then register the information on www.immobilse.com.”

Anyone who can assist should contact Northallerton police on 101 and ask for Doug Miller or email doug.miller@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
