TWO children were injured when a speeding driver flipped his car over, a court heard today (Thursday December 12).

Luke Taddeo, 32, was witnessed driving too fast along Newton Lane in Darlington before he lost control of his car at a junction, causing it to flip over and land on its side on Thursday June 20.

Two boys – aged ten and 12 – were in the vehicle at the time and suffered cuts and bruising as a result of the accident.

Taddeo – from Ilkeston - appeared before Darlington Magistrates Court to plead guilty to one count of driving without due care and attention and another of driving without a licence.

Representing himself, he told magistrates that he had been unaware that he was driving unlicensed as had not been informed that his licence had been revoked due to a previous accident.

He said the accident had occurred because he was unfamiliar with the road and added that he had removed the children to safety following the incident.

Magistrates fined Taddeo £163, ordered him to pay costs of £105 and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
