A £17m proposal to build up to 310 homes, two business parks and a livestock market and create 600 jobs has been unveiled.

Commercial Development Projects said it planned to submit an application to build agricultural business centre and business park beside Eden Camp, off the A64, Malton, in the new year.

It hopes to relocate the town’s livestock market from The Shambles in the town centre to the new business park.

The plan, which follows a lengthy battle to keep the livestock market in the Malton area, includes 220 homes off Pasture Lane, up to 30 homes off Westgate and up to 60 homes, off Green Lane, some of which will be affordable housing.

A spokesman for the developers said profits from building the homes would help subsidise the livestock market relocation, and the building of roads and the business parks.

He said: “The proposals also provide an opportunity for Malton town centre to grow through the redevelopment of the old livestock market and nearby sites, albeit not part of these plans, which, in turn, will enhance the attractiveness of the town centre.”

An exhibition will be held from 10am to 4pm tomorrow (Friday, December 12) and on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, at Cundalls Auctioneers, Market Place, Malton.
