ONE flood alert is still in force in the region as a result of last week’s tidal surge.
The Environment Agency still has a warning in the Seal Sands area, by the River Tees near Billingham, after the embankment was breached.
Work is ongoing to repair the breach and an RAF Chinook helicopter was deployed over the weekend to unload giant sandbags on the flooded area.
An Environment Agency warning read: “We are currently working to repair this breach which was caused by the storm surge on Thursday. Localised flooding in the area of the breach is possible around high tide. High tide is at 9:33am on Tuesday. This Flood Alert remains in force and will be reviewed at midday on Tuesday.”
Only eight other flood alerts remain across the country.
