THE season of good will was in full swing in one North-East village today (Sunday, December 18) thanks to a kind hearted couple on a mission to help others this Christmas.
Iain and Patricia Jane raised about £2,000 for Zoe’s Place baby hospice, in Middlesbrough, by hosting a Christmas party at their home in Mainsforth Village, near Sedgefield in County Durham.
More than 60 friends and relatives attended the festive bash and enjoyed a host of traditional entertainment, including a performance by a professional pianist and carol singing around the fire.
There was also a prize-laden raffle and seasonal refreshments, while the house itself was transformed into a winter wonderland, with sparkling decorations and twinkling lights creating a magical atmosphere.
Mr Jane said the couple and their four children, Caroline Brown and Samantha, Paul and Stuart Jane, had been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of their guests.
“As it is Christmas, we wanted to raise money for a children’s charity,” said Mr Jane.
“When we rang Zoe’s Place and told them we were going to have a party and invite friends and their children I predicted we would raise about £700 “The fact we have raised around £2,000 is absolutely tremendous.”
