RESIDENTS in County Durham are being urged to help tackle fly tipping.
A three-week campaign is being run by Durham County Council, in partnership with the police and Environment Agency, to clamp down on people who dump waste illegally.
The campaign will also target companies which transport, handle or dispose of waste without proper authorisation.
Ian Hoult, neighbourhood protection manager at Durham County Council, said: “Fly tipping is a serious criminal offence, which is not only unsightly but is also costly to remove.”
People are being urged to report incidents of flytipping or companies which they suspect are carrying waste without being properly licensed and registered Durham County Council works with partners on a widespread education programme and only uses enforcement as a final resort.

The campaign will run until Friday, December 20.
