A SENIOR police officer has raised hundreds of pounds for a charity which supports and creates projects designed to tackle crime and the fear of crime after jumping out of a plane.

Superintendent Kerrin Smith, who is based at Durham Police headquarters, Aykley Heads, took part in a sponsored skydive to raise money for the Durham Agency Against Crime (Daac).

She said it was “scary as anything” but with feet firmly back on the ground added that she was glad she had done it.

“We jumped from 13,000ft, freefalling to about 6,000ft - which only lasted about 30 seconds as we were traveling at 140mph,” said Supt Smith.

“Then the parachute opened and I floated the rest of the way down, which was really lovely.

“Due to the adrenaline, I was shaking for hours afterwards.”

In all, Supt Smith raised £350 for Daac. To find out more about the charity's work, go to daac.org.uk
