POLICE are hunting a youth suspected of throwing a brick at a van as it drove along the A66.

The incident happened as the van was travelling westbound on the A66 at about 1.20pm on Monday, December 2, opposite to Bolckow Industrial Estate, Grangetown, near Redcar.

The red Scania van was damaged on the front bumper and grill.

It is believed that there was a male youth in a striped top, who was standing on the footpath on the Grangetown side of the A66, when the incident happened.

PC Russell Doherty, of Cleveland Police, said: “Throwing missiles at vehicles is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated. If the brick had hit the windscreen of the van then we could have been dealing with an incident with a far worse outcome.

"Those who think that it’s acceptable to throw missiles at vehicles should be warned that they could seriously injure someone and we will deal with those who throw missiles at vehicles very seriously.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact PC Doherty on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
