A SECOND World War mortar bomb was destroyed this morning after bomb disposals experts were summoned to a field in North Yorkshire.
In a blast heard up to two miles away the device was detonated in a controlled explosion.
A member of the public found the device at the Pickering showground at about 2.40pm on Wednesday and reported the discovery to the police.
Police immediately put up a 200m cordon around the scene and contacted the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, who blew the bomb up shortly after 9am today.
