SANTA will be paying an early visit to Darlington to encourage people to dig deep and donate to charity.

As part of their annual Christmas appeal, Darlington Round Table has enlisted the help of Father Christmas to raise vital funds for a number of the town’s charities.

Throughout this year the Round Table has donated more than £9,000 to a number of local charities, causes and events, including £500 to the Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre and £2,800 to primary schools in the borough for different projects.

The organisation has also provided Top Deck youth club, in Borough Road, with a new security system worth £1,000.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “We would like to thank the residents of Darlington for their continued support for the Santa sleigh over the years and look forward to renewed efforts this coming Christmas.”

The areas Santa will be visiting are: Middleton St George, December 8; High Grange, December 9; Coniscliffe Road, December 10; Hurworth, December 11; Cockerton and Park West, December 12; Hummersknott, December 15, Mowden, December 16; Brinkburn Road, December 17, Whinfield, December 18, the Elton Road area on December 19 and High Row on December 21.
