MAGISTRATES fined a Darlington business and an employee more than £1,000 for using a company vehicle with a faulty trailer.

Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard today (Wednesday, December 4) that Richard Segger, 29, was stopped whilst driving a vehicle for Darlington-based RNS Utilities Ltd in Morcambe in July.

Officers inspected the vehicle’s trailer, which was carrying a mini-digger at the time, and found three defects; the trailer’s indicators did not work, it had no numberplate and its brakes were inadequate.

Both the company and Segger pleaded guilty in writing to using a defective vehicle.

RNS Utilities Ltd, based on Croft Road, was fined a total of £1,029 in fines and court charges and Segger a total of £484.
