A NEW musical film focused on mental health issues made by novice actors is premiered on Friday.
The Bright Lights project is raising awareness of self-harm and suicide, particularly among Teesside’s black and minority ethnic (BME) communities. The film’s storyline revolves around four young people and their struggles with self-esteem, confidence, socialising and family issues.
Each of the characters has a talent such as singing, music, writing or dancing but must overcome a number of obstacles before they can fulfill their potential.
Edward Kunonga, Director of Public Health for Middlesbrough Council, said: “Mental Health covers a broad spectrum of issues which may affect young people.
“Reducing the stigma of mental illness by bringing these issues to light is a great step towards helping other sufferers.”
Bright Lights is being screened at the Tuned In youth centre, Majuba Road, Redcar, on Friday (December 6) from 4pm to 8pm. Tickets costing £5 each, £15 for a family of four and £15 for the after party are available by visiting the Bright Lights website www.brightlightsproject.co.uk
