TWO North Yorkshire youngsters who followed in the footsteps of the Von Trapp family have reported back on their trip to Austria.
Poppy Dunstan and Ebony Chaplin, from Northallerton and Crakehall Guides, respectively, gave a talk and display at Girlguiding Northallerton and Wensleydale’s annual meeting in Bedale.
As part of the two-week Girlguiding trip they were selected for, the two 14-year-olds spent two days in Salzburg visiting many of the places featured in the film The Sound of Music.
They then travelled to a camp of 4,000 people split into groups. The girls got involved in many activities, went to concerts and parties and enjoyed making new friends.
During the final days, the girls enjoyed sightseeing, shopping and spending time with their hosts.
Poppy, from Northallerton Guides, said: “I was astounded to be selected for the trip to Austria, but I am so glad I was. I had the most amazing time, an experience that I will never forget.
“It is an opportunity that I would encourage any Guide to apply for.”
