CHILDREN in Darlington will this weekend be given the chance to win a competition to model eyewear for a family-run optician.

Rees and Wade Opticians is running a competition to find the children who will become the ‘Young Faces of Wade’ next year.

On Saturday (December 7), at its practice in Post House Wynd, Darlington, the company is inviting any child aged 16 and under to come in to get their photograph taken wearing designer glasses. Children don’t already have to wear glasses to enter.

All the pictures will then be uploaded to the company’s Facebook page where those who ‘like’ the page will vote for their favourites to make the shortlist.

This shortlist will also include children who have already entered the competition in Ryton, Yarm and Durham.

A professional judging panel will then pick the winners later this month.

There are four age categories – two years and under, three to six, six to 12 and 12 to 16 – and the winner of each category will win a professional photo-shoot with their image then being displayed on promotional material throughout 2014.

Winners will also receive copies of these photographs to keep, a pair of Rayban Junior or Zoobug sunglasses and free prescription glasses if they already wear spectacles.
