A COMMUNITY day will offer everything from health checks to Christmas lights testing this week.

Durham County Council’s community action team are holding a drop-in session at Trimdon Station Community Centre from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday, December 4.

The team has been in Trimdon Station and Deaf Hill since the beginning of November and has focused on a range of community issues, including fly-tipping, empty properties, noise problems, cold callers and underage alcohol and tobacco sales.

The drop-in session will offer advice on drugs and alcohol, as well as free mini health checks.

There will also be tips on how to reduce energy bills and portable appliance testing to ensure electrical items, such as Christmas lights, are safe to use.

A further drop-in session will take place at the same venue from 3pm to 6pm on Thursday, December 12.

I'm glad too see someone checking portable appliances ( Xmas lights everyone) as at this time of year they are the biggest killer ! They come out year in year out but it doesn't mean they are safe cos every bulb lights up! If they are in the loft the can be damp or bought cheaply not meet the british standards! And most importantly have a working smoke n CO alarm no one wants to loose anyone but especially at this time of year needlessly due to not having alarms! If you have to ask Santa for them!!
