TWO rival taxi firm workers are going head to head in the boxing ring in support of the Bobby Robson Foundation.
Peter Crang, director of 1AB Taxis in Darlington, will take on Chris Mason, who drives for ABC Taxis in the town.
Mr Crang has a personal connection to the Bobby Robson Foundation as his father is receiving treatment at the charity’s research unit in Newcastle after being diagnosed with cancer two years ago.
Mr Mason’s grandmother sadly died from the disease in early November and that, along with a desire to support Mr Crang, has been his motivation to take part in the fight.
The battle will take place as part of a Gentlemen’s Fight Night at the Darlington Boxing and Martial Arts Academy at The Northern Echo Arena on Saturday.
Mr Crang, 31, said he has trained so hard that he is looking forward to putting all his efforts into practice against his business rival.
He said: “It is going to be a proper fight, but we will be friends afterwards.
“I am not a proper boxer, I just do it to keep fit, but ever since dad went into the Bobby Robson unit they have been absolutely amazing and I wanted to give something back.”
Mr Mason, 32, whose father is the director of ABC, added: “I am quite confident about the fight and it has been a good experience for me because it has given me motivation to lose weight.
“Obviously, Peter’s dad has cancer so it is to help a mate and raise money for the foundation, that is what it’s all about.”
The fight night, which is for over 18s only, will also include a charity match between former Mowden Park rugby player Ian Keeligan and current Barnard Castle player Gary Beck.
Tickets cost £20 available from 01325-468088.
