A MARKET is hoping to be crowned Britain’s favourite for the second year running.
Darlington Sunday People’s Market was crowned the nation’s favourite at the National Association of British Market Authorities Market of the Year competition last year, and organisers are hoping to once again take the title.
The monthly market, held on the first Sunday of every month, was set up in August last year and has since gone from strength to strength, attracting dozens of independent traders from across the North-East.
Its aim was to rejuvenate the town centre and showcase the diversity of the region, as well as bringing traders to Darlington who are not usually seen on the Saturday and Monday markets.
Samantha Blackham, co-founder of the market, said: “We are volunteers and have the passion and enthusiasm for our town. We want to make Darlington the destination for markets.”
