Darlington street named by primary school pupil
A PUPIL from Harrowgate Hill Primary School has won a competition to name a street on a new housing development in Darlington.
The new development, built in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and Darlington Council, provides 16 new family homes at affordable rents in the Beaumont Hill area of town.
Youngsters at the school were challenged by North Star Housing Group to come up with a street name at the site of the new homes.
Several suggestions were shortlisted, including Teacher’s Place, Cherry Grove and Watson Close, but seven-year-old Charlie Lawson’s proposal - Primary Close - was chosen as the winning name.
Mrs Hancocks, headteacher at Harrowgate Hill Primary School, said: “We feel very proud to have taken part in naming the street.
“Charlie came up with a great name.
“In years to come he will be able to still tell his friends it was his idea.”
Charlie, from Darlington, said: “I’m so excited to see the name I came up with on the sign, I am happy I won.”
North Star Housing Group presented Charlie and the school with an iPad.
