DRINKERS at a North-East snooker club had a good reason to raise their glasses this weekend after it was presented with a top real-ale award.
Darlington Snooker Club, in the town’s Corporation Road, was named the region’s club of the year by CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale - earlier this year and is the ninth time in ten years it has scooped the award.
The organisation’s North-East regional director, David Brazier, visited the club this weekend to present the club’s owner, Peter Everett, with the award.
“I think people voted for the snooker club because there is always a very good range of good beers from local and small breweries, all at reasonable prices and there is always a really warm welcome,” said Mr Brazier.
“I live in South Shields and it is always one of the highlights when I come down here, I always look forward to it.
“It is impressive that the thousands of CAMRA members out there chose it as the best club.”
The club has a number of CAMRA accolades and Mr Everett said he was ecstatic at winning the award.
To celebrate, the club held a weekend-long beer festival featuring 20 ales from microbreweries from across the North-East.
