Popular Bowlees Visitor Centre to remain open at weekends throughout the winter
A NEWLY-reopened visitor centre has proved so popular with tourists it is to remain open throughout the winter.
Officials from the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) partnership, which operates the Bowlees Visitor Centre, near Middleton-in-Teesdale, had planned to close the facility for the winter.
However, they have now decided to keep the centre open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the end of February next year. Opening times will be 10am to 4pm.
An AONB spokeswoman said: “Initially, the plan was to close the centre during the winter.
“However, the centre has been so busy and proved so popular with visitors since reopening in June, it will now be open at weekends throughout the winter.
“It is the visitors who have been asking us to stay open.”
The next event at Bowlees will take place on November 16, when experts from RSPB Saltholme and Moorhouse, the upper Teesdale nature reserve, will join AONB staff for a day of Wild Autumn activities.
