Fundraising concerts with historical theme
2:39pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
TWO upcoming fundraising concerts at Reeth Memorial Hall will have a historical theme.
On Friday, November 8, there will be a performance by a former Radio 2 Musician of the Year, John Kirkpatrick.
He is a former member of, amongst others, Steeleye Span, the Richard Thompson Band, the Albion Band and Brass Monkey.
Fresh from his appearances on the Victorian Farm and Edwardian Farm series’, he presents A Victorian Farmer’s Year in Song. The concert begins at 8pm and tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door; under 16s are half price.
On Friday, December 13, also at 8pm, Blast From The Past will visit with their costumed Christmas show A Medieval Christmas, featuring festive songs and carols, played on authentic instruments such as cittern, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and shawm.
They will explore the origins of kissing under the mistletoe along with some less pleasant Christmas customs such as the smoking of the fool and the annual beating of the children.
Two of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales will also be presented – one of them complete with animal masks and costumes. Tickets are £12 in advance or £14 on the door, and £3 for under 16s.
Profits are in aid of the hall. Tickets are on sale at Reeth Post Office or contact John Little 01748-884759.
