Panto dame gets knickers in a twist
5:30pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
CREATIVE youngsters attending a drama workshop had the chance to design weird and wonderful underwear for a pantomime dame.
A half-term pantomime workshop was held at Darlington Civic Theatre on Wednesday (October 30).
Participants had the chance to design bloomers for the Widow Twanky character in the forthcoming pantomime Aladdin, which runs from December 7 to January 13.
A spokeswoman for the theatre said: “Widow Twanky has got to get her washing done before the panto starts and is expecting to see lots of pairs of colourful – possibly outrageous – bloomers in her washing basket.
“She’ll be picking out the best pair to wear when she graces the stage in Aladdin.
“So, budding lingerie designers, get those colouring pencils, crayons, and felt pens out, and design the best pair of bloomers you can think of to cover the delicate derrière of Widow Twanky.”
The winner will see their entry made into a pair of colourful undergarments and worn on-stage by panto dame Philip Meeks, as well as a family ticket to the show.
All the entries will be displayed on a washing line strung up in the theatre during the show’s month-long run.
Bloomer templates can also be picked up from the theatre box office, or downloaded from darlingtoncivic.co.uk
Completed entries can be dropped into Widow Twanky’s washing basket at the box office, or posted to: Bloomers Competition, Darlington Civic Theatre, Parkgate, Darlington, DL1 1RR.
Entries must be received by Saturday, November 30 and the winner will receive tickets for the opening night.
Also appearing in the show are children’s TV favourites the Chuckle Brothers, as well as Darlington girl Beth Stobbart as the princess.
