A1 at Allerton Park, near Harrogate, closed overnight after lorry overturns
THE A1 in North Yorkshire reopened at 6am this morning after being closed overnight when an HGV carrying a load of bottled water jack-knifed across both carriageways.
The lorry was heading south when a collision happened in heavy rain at junction 47 at Allerton Park, near Harrogate, just before 8.10pm last night.
It veered across the central reservation onto the northbound carriageway before finally coming to rest on its side.
The driver had to be freed from the cab by fire crews and was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with minor injuries.
The occupants of a car travelling behind the HGV hit the central reservation but all were unhurt.
Police would like to trace a vehicle which was travelling south and overtook the lorry just prior to the crash.
Its make and colour are unknown and it is possible the driver is unaware of the collision.
Repairs were needed to 200 metres of barrier along the central reservation following the crash.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the work was carried out.
Any witnesses are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Thirsk Roads Policing Group. Or email Hamish.firstname.lastname@example.org
