Drugs man jailed for three years
A DRUG DEALER caught with a stash of cocaine and cannabis was jailed for three years today (Friday October 25).
Middlesbrough man Christopher David Smith, 28, was arrested after a police search at his home uncovered the drugs.
Cocaine with a street value of £166.28 and cannabis bush valued at £69.21 was seized, along with £2880.
Scales believed to have been used for drug dealing and a mobile phone were also confiscated during the search of the property in Ellerbeck Way, Ormesby in October last year.
Andrew Teate, mitigating, said Smith had been a social drug user when working but the loss of his job and a family breakdown caused his addiction to spiral out of control and left him unable to afford to fund his lifestyle.
Judge Howard Crowson jailed Smith – of Ellerbeck Way, Ormesby – for three years.
He said: “Class A drugs cause immense trouble for the courts with most of the cases we deal with involving them in some way.”
Smith had previous convictions for drug related offences and was jailed for three years and four months in 2010 for an aggravated burglary in which he threatened a 16-year-old girl with a knife and knuckleduster after he and four others broke into her Middlesbrough home.
