ONE of the rarest vintage Star Wars figures ever to come on the market has been sold for £10,200 to a North American collector.
Vectis in Thornaby, Teesside, which specialises in collectable toys, auctioned the vintage Jawa, one of the hooded creatures from the Star Wars film yesterday (Thursday, October 24).
The figure, which is believed to be one of only six in the world in pristine conditions, was made in Palitoy in Coalville, Leicester, 35 yeras ago.
The figure is rare because it has a vinyl cape – almost unheard of – and is packaged and mounted on unpunched card.
Kathy Taylor, valuer at Vectis, said the figure was the “Holy Grail” for Star Wars memorabilia collectors.
She said: “This is probably the rarest figure that there is in the Star Wars world, as far as we are aware there is only six that are known of in the world.
“I have worked here for 13 years and this is the most interest that I have ever had in one of our sales. With everyone using social media these days we are able to interact with people around the world.”
