Work to start on digging trial archaeological trenches at proposed Feethams Leisure site
WORK is to start on digging trial archaeological trenches at a Darlington site earmarked for a major leisure development.
It will take place at the Town Hall South car park on Monday at the proposed Feethams Leisure site and is expected to last all week.
The work is being done so that developers Terrace Hill satisfy the need for archaeological investigations as part of their planning application for a leisure complex which includes a nine-screen cinema, hotel and restaurants.
Staff and visitors to Darlington town centre are advised to find alternative parking for the duration of the works, although a Darlington Council spokeswoman said disruption will be kept to a minimum.
She added: “This is a very exciting development for the town centre with the added interest of further potential discoveries of Darlington's buried history.”
