Joint patrols involving Barnard Castle police and Teesdale YMCA hailed a success in tackling underage drinking
JOINT patrols involving police and young people have proved successful in tackling underage drinking in a County Durham town.
Police in Barnard Castle are joined by members of Teesdale YMCA on a Friday night as part of a project launched just a month ago.
PCSO Ryan Field told the town's October police and communities together (Pact) there had been 15 seizures of alcohol from underage youngsters so far.
He said the project was working well and would continue.
PCSO Field also said Barnard Castle police were supporting a county-wide week of action in the run-up to bonfire night, highlighting the dangers of fireworks and alcohol.
Officers are also visiting every shop in Barnard Castle selling fireworks to remind proprietors that the legal age for buying fireworks is now 18.
