Man dealt with two traumatic events by taking amphetamine
TRAUMATIC events led to a young man using drugs to cope with his grief on two occasions, a court was told today.
Darren Kirk, 25, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for possession of the Class B drug mephedrone in January but was back at Darlington Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, October 24) after being caught in possession again on October 13.
The court heard that Kirk took the drug in January after hearing his friend had hanged himself, and took it again this month after learning another friend had been murdered.
Kirk, of Station Road Darlington, admitted possessing the amphetamine - known as ‘bubble’- and accepted it put him in breach of his discharge.
Magistrate Pat Wilson said he should find another way to deal with his grief and charged him a total of £178 in court costs and fines, while allowing the original conditional discharge to continue.
