A MOTORIST caught behind the wheel at almost three times the drink drive limit has been banned from driving for two years.
Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard today (Thursday, October 24) that 58-year-old Edwin Hadland had 100mg of alcohol in his breath when he drove home from after-work drinks on October 12.
Patrolling officers saw Hadland’s vehicle drift towards the white lines so they followed him a short distance to his Sadberge Road home in Middleton St George.
When Hadland got out of his car he was unsteady on his feet and failed a breath test.
He pleaded guilty to drink driving in court.
Mitigating, Rory Todd said Hadland had been drinking the night before and was on blood pressure medication which may have affected his alcohol tolerance.
He said Hadland admitted drinking after work on the day he was caught, but insisted it had not been a huge amount.
Magistrates ordered him to pay £690 in court charges and fines in addition to the driving ban.
