Young barber gets picked to form part of elite group

A YOUNG barber has styled her way to a spot in a group of elite cutters after being hand-picked for a mentoring scheme.
Hollie Sutton, 20, from Northallerton, opened Holl & Co barber shop in the town in December after wanting a change from her hairdressing career.
Interested in the creative side of barbering, she applied for a barber mentoring project Menspire, run by the British Barbering Association – and she won a place out of 20,000 applicants.
Miss Sutton said: “I was picked by Chris Foster who is a big name in the barbering world.
“Since being part of the mentoring scheme I have been trained by top London stylists and recently had to perform a demonstration on stage at Salon International – the biggest hair conference in the world – and I was apparently the first female barber to take to the stage.
“I got lots of really positive feedback from experienced and well-known barbers so it has really boosted my confidence.”
Miss Sutton will be appearing on stage again at events in Wales and Dublin during the course of the year-long scheme and she said she is taking every opportunity she can.
“I am now looking for staff for my Northallerton shop so I can take trips to London and learn more,” she added.
Miss Sutton has levels two and three in barbering and is one of few barbers in the county to offer a cut-throat razer shave and hair designs popular with children.
Holl & Co Barbers is at 226 High Street, Northallerton.
