MORE than 200 people have added their names to an online petition aimed at increasing awareness of childhood cancer.
The campaign to designate September as international childhood cancer awareness month, which now has close to 850 signatures, is being backed by the family of Paralympic hopeful Kieran Maxwell.
The 15-year-old, from Heighington, near Darlington, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in 2010, resulting in his left leg being amputated at the knee.
Kieran suffered a relapse of his condition earlier this year and is undergoing chemotherapy.
Earlier this month, the petition had 600 signatures, with 842 people now having signed.
Campaigners hope to get 100,000 signatures.
