Scouts take on section of coast to coast route as part of challenge week

A SCOUT group has completed a section of a Coast to Coast route as part of its Challenge Week.
Scouts across North Yorkshire have been taking part in their own challenges, and 1st Brompton on Swale Scout Group hiked from Marrick, through Marske, Richmond, Brompton-on-Swale, to Kiplin Hall, near Scorton – around 10 miles.
The walk, earlier this month, was called No Sleep ‘Til Kiplin, and they were joined by Cubs in Richmond, and Beavers in Brompton-on-Swale, who carried the group flag into the hall.
The event was supported by regional businesses, Tolent Construction and Procomm Site Services, as well as international companies, Air Products and Foster Wheeler who between them have pledged a total of £1,300 in support.
All four companies are involved in the construction of the world’s largest Energy from Waste plant on Teesside.
It is hoped that the event will raise sufficient funds to enable the group to go on summer camp next year and allow the group to continue to provide opportunities for more children and adults to join in the Scouting experience.
Paul Hankin, from 1st Brompton on Swale Scout group, said: “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the week on week change in the children that attend our Scout meetings. I look forward to every week to see how our young people embrace the challenges and activities that we set for them.”
