A PRIMARY school hosted a sponsored run in their grounds to raise money for Barnados and Martin House Hospice.
East Cowton school, near Northallerton, encouraged youngsters to take part in the event after pupils Daniel and Annie Smithson’s late brother, Matthew, attended the hospice.
Children ranging from three to 11-years-old ran laps of the 200m school circuit, collectively managing to run 600 laps.
School administrator Linda Bainbridge said: “Matthew’s parents did the Great North Run this year and we also wanted to do something to raise money, splitting the proceeds between Barnardos and the hospice.”
The school raised more than £200 from the run and casjh is still coming in.
Linda added: “It was very well received. Not the best weather conditions, but everyone took part with smiles on their faces.”
