Schools announce theatre link-up
12:05pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
THREE Darlington schools have formed a partnership with a theatre company, which will give students a chance to see behind-the-scenes of productions.
Darlington Civic Theatre and the Touring Consortium theatre company have entered into an agreement with Hummersknott, Longfield and Darlington School of Mathematics and Science.
The scheme is aimed at giving schools the chance to form a unique relationship with one of the country’s top producers of drama, as well as their local theatre venue.
The partnership provides schools with the opportunity to give their students an experience beyond simply seeing the show, with workshops exploring how the productions were created and the chance to get further behind-the-scenes resources on ‘theatre cloud’, a digital platform for resources and sharing of work.
The Touring Consortium will be running several creative projects over the next three years and partner schools will be the first to know.
The first play in the project is To Sir, With Love which is at the Civic Theatre from November 12 to 16.
Benefits the schools will receive over the next two-and-a-half will include:
• Discounted student tickets for each Touring Consortium Theatre Company production;
• An in-school workshop delivered by an industry professional prior to each production;
A ‘page to stage’ workshop delivered at Darlington Civic Theatre during the week of each Touring Consortium production;
• The opportunity to participate in a shared presentation where work devised between students and teachers can be presented digitally or at the venue.
