Darlington man breaks restraining order to contact his ex wife
A MAN who admitted breaching a restraining order three times by trying to contact his ex wife has been sentenced.
Gareth Wilkinson, 33, pleaded guilty to the breaches at an earlier hearing at Darlington Magistrates’ Court and appeared for sentencing today (Thursday, October 17).
The court heard that Wilkinson’s ex wife took out the restraining order in June last year, but allowed him to stay at her house for a night after their child was born and Wilkinson found himself homeless.
After overstaying his welcome by three weeks, he then sent messages to his ex via facebook and twitter telling her that he wanted to see his daughter.
In mitigation the court heard that the messages were not threatening and that Wilkinson, of Major Street, Darlington, now dedicated himself to volunteering for counseling services.
Magistrates sentenced him to 80-hours unpaid work and ordered him to pay a total of £145 in court charges.
