Three generations of the Gillow family take part in fashion show which raised £1,600
THREE generations of the same family took to the catwalk for a fashion show in which cricket legend Ian Botham also strutted his stuff.
The event at the Shoulder of Mutton in Middleton Tyas was organised by William Gillow of the Geoffrey Gillow clothes shop in Darlington.
Mr Gillow compered the event while 14 models including his father Geoffrey, 97, and his son James, 17, wowed the crowds with the latest fashions.
Former England cricket captain Ian Botham, who is a regular Geoffrey Gillow customer, also lent his support to the event and took a turn on the catwalk with his wife Kathy.
Mr Gillow said the evening had been a huge success and raised around £1,600 for the Middleton Tyas and Ravensworth village hall funds.
He added: “My father modelled expertly in his tweed.
“He’s 97 so there’s 80-years between him and my son; I don’t think that has ever happened on a catwalk anywhere, never mind in Darlington, and they were both very well received.
“It was a brilliant night, the atmosphere was very social, the customers really interacted with the models and you could see everybody was having fun.”
Although Mr Gillow admitted that hosting a fashion show in a pub was a “logistical nightmare” he said afterwards he was asked to hold similar events at three more pubs and he was more than happy to try and repeat its success elsewhere.
