Chairman of Thornaby Labour Party calls own party "arrogant" and "lazy"
THE chairman of a town’s Labour Party has criticised his own constituency Labour Party as “arrogant” and “lazy Labour”.
Terry Murphy, chairman of Thornaby Labour Party, said the larger Stockton South Labour organisation was not serving the people of the area properly because it was dominated by a small cabal, often from the north of the river.
However, Stockton South Labour has rejected his complaints, arguing it is committed to “fighting for local communities”.
Mr Murphy, a former Stockton borough councillor, said the Labour-dominated Stockton council was not taking into account the interests of people in the south of the district.
He said parking charges should not have been introduced in Yarm and housing developers should not be allowed to build too many houses in areas around Ingleby Barwick, Yarm and Thornaby.
He was also upset that the Labour Party is selling off Thornaby Labour Party’s office without proper consultation without reasonable justification.
He claimed that an official complaint from himself about “procedural irregularities” in the party were dealt with “arrogantly”.
In a comment published on Facebook, Mr Murphy, who said he was writing as an individual party member, said: “What an absolute farce Stockton South Labour Party is, a festering sore who care nothing for natural justice, not interested in representing anyone outside their narrow ignorant world view and God forbid anyone should challenge their cosy cabal. Talk about lazy Labour.
“I will do what I can to highlight their arrogance and pursue my desire to see a representative local party where the whole of the borough has a strong voice, where talent and merit are the key factors in local politics and to see an end to the patronage by the fiefdom toward the many nodding donkeys whose only talent is to raise their arm at the right time in planning meetings.”
A spokesperson for Stockton South Constituency Labour Party said: “Terry Murphy as an individual member is entitled to hold his own views. We in Stockton South CLP are building a great team committed to fighting for our local communities and campaigning hard to ensure the constituency’s Conservative MP is held to account for the disastrous impact his government is having on our area.”
Stockton South parliamentary constituency is currently represented by Conservative MP James Wharton but is a marginal seat.
