Friends of Richardson Hospital, in Barnard Castle, beat last year's fundraising total
THE Friends’ group of a Barnard Castle hospital raised almost £30,000 for the establishment this year.
The Friends of Richardson Hospital have spent £29,870 on items such as televisions for the wards, recliner chairs and conference fees - an increase of £1,500 from 2012.
The chairs, which cost £15,000, replaced those which the group bought when the hospital first opened.
Marie Yarker, chairwoman of the Friends group, said: “We are delighted to have been able to buy some important items to help make hospital stays by those in and around Teesdale a bit more pleasant.
“We work closely with the hospital to ensure what we buy is needed and of the right specification.”
The Friends have provided a vast range of equipment and services to the hospital over the years, including medical, diagnostic and screening equipment, physiotherapy equipment, treatment couches and chairs for the day rooms and day hospice.
They have also paid for specialist mattresses, seating, hoists and bathing equipment, hospital outings, newspapers, Christmas gifts, teaching and demonstration aids and health promotion tools.
All members are volunteers who raise money in the local community.
To get involved, contact the group’s publicity officer, Iris Hillery, on firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the hospital on Victoria Road.
