Creative Kate has design competition wrapped up
A NORTH-EAST design student will see her work used by a major retailer after winning a prize in a national competition.
Kate Willson, who studies at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington, entered a competition with Tiger Print, which designs for Marks and Spencer.
The company is part of the Hall Mark cards group and its competitions are particularly aimed at undergraduates.
Out of thousands of entries, Miss Willson came second and Tiger Print is going to use her design on a range of M&S cards, wrapping paper and gift tags.
The theme of the competition was ‘shapes as pattern’ and Miss Willson’s winning entry was a black and white linear design.
Miss Willson, who is on a foundation art course at the college and plans to study fashion promotion at university, said: “I didn’t think I would get anything and was really surprised to hear that my design had met with such approval.
“It’s really increased my confidence and given me a boost. It will be fantastic to see my design in the stores.”
