A NEW exhibition starts at Head of Steam next week which focuses on two key events in Darlington’s history.
Track Across Time features paintings, sculptures, film and photography which bridge two events; the opening of North Road Locomotive works in 1863 and the start of World War I in 1914.
Arising from an exhibition originally commissioned by the NRM Locomotion, the exhibition has been created by local artists Carolyn Corfield, Vera Hynes and Graeme Rowatt.
Archive material relating to family history and World War I held within the museum has helped determine the focus of many sculptural pieces by Ms Corfield, whose grandfather was a railwayman before and after the war.
Ms Hynes has used an unusual round canvas for her interpretation of the local landscape, whilst Mr Rowatt’s photography concentrates on the people who have kept Darlington’s railway heritage alive.
The exhibition runs from October 16 until March 30, 2014 and is included in the museum admission price.
