Bea-plus effort by young fundraisers

A GIANT bee visited a Darlington primary school to congratulate the children for helping Butterwick Children’s Hospice.
The blue mascot, called Bea, handed over certificates to the children of Heathfield Primary School for raising £3,054 for the hospice, which is based in Stockton but serves youngsters from across the region.
Children and staff raised the money from various fundraisers, including taking part and winning a region-wide Dragon’s Denstyle boardroom challenge.
The competition was organised by Newcastle Building Society and the children were asked to create, budget and plan a charity fundraising event and present it to a board of senior figures from the building society.
Year five pupils Candy Crang, Ellie Fox, Katelyn Harker, Katie Ireland, Charlie McGregor and Jessica Pearce, who called themselves The Boardroom Piggies, won for their plan to work with the children at the Butterwick House Children’s Hospice and its sibling group to create jewellery and other items to sell at their event.
Other Butterwick projects at the school included selling merchandise, and Barclays Bank rewarded the youngsters by matchfunding some of the money raised.
Tracy Bowstead, children’s community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “The school and all the children have been amazing.”
