Three years in prison for drunken attacker who fractured cheekbone and eye socket of victim

A DRUNKEN man whose ‘spontaneous and aggressive’ attack fractured the cheekbone and eye socket of a landscape gardener has been jailed for three years.
Christopher Cooper attacked the reveller while on a night out at Angels strip club, in Redcar, on May 3 this year.
Teesside Crown Court heard the 24-year-old was on licence from prison for arson when he took offence to something said to him in the club and punched his victim.
Sue Jacobs, prosecuting, said a witness described hearing a thud and seeing his friend fall to the floor.
“At one stage the injured party is holding onto the leg of the defendant trying to protect himself," she said.
“There are a number of blows while the injured party is on the ground.”
In mitigation Michael Bosomworth, said Cooper, who has 37 previous convictions, is not normally a violent man.
He also said Cooper was very drunk at the time of the attack and "when he gets drunk he does silly things".
Cooper, of Coronation Road, Loftus, admitted one charge of grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for three years.
