Labour candidate celebrating victorious campaign
STOCKTON-on-Tees has been missed out in a new book listing the worst towns in the UK.
Louise Baldock, Labour candidate for Stockton South, said she was celebrating the news that Stockton, initially on a long list of 100 towns, had been left out of “Crap Towns Return”.
She said it came after a campaign she headed over the summer involving hundreds of local residents to promote everything positive about the town, and the wider borough which bears its name.
She said: “Stockton is a great town and I’m glad the authors were persuaded of that. It is a town rightly proud of its gold award as a Champion of Champions in Britain in Bloom. Preston Park was a finalist in the Museum of the Year this year; the Borough’s town centres have been revitalised; the villages are chocolate box pretty and the River Tees has nature reserves along miles of its banks.”
Crap Towns Return co-author Sam Jordison said: “Stockton ran a very good campaign.. Lots of people spoke up for the town and there was plenty of local pride on display. Their success can be measured by the fact that Stockton didn’t end up in the book...”
