ONE of the biggest events on the UK’s surfing calendar took place in Scarborough this weekend.
More than 100 of the best surfers in the country made their way to Scarborough’s North Bay this weekend (October 5 and October 6), for the UK Pro Surf Tour.
The two-day festival is now the biggest event on the Pro Surf UK circuit, last year attracting more than 14,000 people.
Local surfers joined professionals to compete for the Scarborough Championship title.
Although the good weather failed to produce ideal surfing conditions, there were plenty of other attractions.
Some of the country’s top professional mountain bikers were at the festival, to stage a series of freestyle shows.
There was also a VW camper van shine and show display and several live acts on the Surf Music Stage on the North Bay.
Janet Deacon, Welcome to Yorkshire’s area director for North Yorkshire said Scarborough was now becoming one of UK’s top destinations for surfing.
