Final preparations underway for Strictly Musicals performance
3:40pm Sunday 6th October 2013 in News
THE final touches are being made to a local theatre production showcasing the best show tunes from Broadway and the West End.
Members of Darlington Operatic Society have been perfecting musical numbers from the likes of Miss Saigon, Chicago, Blood Brothers, My Fair Lady, Evita and Les Miserables since April for their musical extravaganza Strictly Musicals.
The show was conceived, directed and choreographed by resident director Joanne Hand.
Julian Cound, spokesman for the company, said: "Putting on a show like this is so difficult. Firstly there are literally thousands of great songs we could have included but the show would have been six hours long.
“Joanne has cherry-picked songs that people will know and love as well as putting in a few numbers that will be new to most people.
"We are very fortunate in Darlington to have so many talented, passionate, young performers - many of whom would not be lost on the West End stage. Indeed that is exactly where several of our members have ended up.”
Strictly Musicals opens at the Darlington Civic Theatre on Wednesday, October 23 and runs until Saturday, November 2.
Tickets priced at £14 for children and £16 for adults are available by calling 01325-244659 or online at darlingtonos.org.uk
