Motorists warned to expect delays as roadworks start in Hartlepool on Monday
6:26pm Friday 4th October 2013 in News
DRIVERS are being warned to watch out for roadworks on one of the main routes in and out of Hartlepool.
The borough council will start work on Monday (October 7) to repair and improve the Belle Vue Way/Brenda Road roundabout on the A689.
The project, which will take about 11 weeks to complete, will include completely rebuilding and resurfacing the road around the roundabout, plus the installation of better drainage.
Brendon Colarossi, the council’s senior projects officer, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience which the work may cause but the repairs are essential as the road surface around the roundabout has become very worn and needs replacing.
“Also, adding the new left turn filter lane should substantially reduce the long traffic tailbacks which build up on the south section of Brenda Road on the approach to the roundabout at busy times.”
While the work is carried out there will be no access to Brenda Road from the roundabout and signposted diversions will be in place. A contraflow system will be in place on the A689 in the area around the roundabout from Monday, October 14 until the end of November.
The £600,000 scheme is being funded from the Tees Valley Bus Network Improvement Fund and the Council’s highways maintenance budget.
