Autumnal apple celebration at historic home
5:53pm Friday 4th October 2013 in News
AN HISTORIC home is running a fortnight of apple celebrations from this weekend.
More than 35 varieties of apples are grown in the walled gardens of Beningbrough Hall and Gardens near York. There is also a community orchard where predominately Yorkshire varieties of the fruit are grown, cared for by local families, schools and community groups.
From Saturday, October 5, until Sunday, October 20, the hall will be running a celebration of the fruit, allowing people an opportunity to sample this year’s harvest with a selection of activities and tasty treats.
People will be able to try apple pressing, apple tasting and take part in walks and talks led by the stately home’s gardeners at 1pm every day.
Beningbrough Hall’s cafe will also have apple dishes on the menu. The hall and gardens are open every day except Mondays from 11am until 5.30pm.
