Hollywood sci fi characters come to Redcar
Sci fi enthusiasts Ian Wardrobe, Leanne Burns, Robyn Alderson, Tom Burns and George Jenn-Hutchinson who will be joined by many more colourful characters on Saturday
AN exhibition of some of Hollywood’s most famous film franchises will be brought to life when more than 30 enthusiasts attend dressed as their favourite sci fi characters.
The group, which boasts a Doctor Who lookalike closely followed by a Dalek, will be at the Invasion exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum, near Redcar, on Saturday, October 5.
The exhibition itself features costumes from Star Trek, aliens from Star Wars and robots from Robocop while characters from films like Batman, Resident Evil and Kick Ass are expected too.
In addition, Thornaby-based auctioneers Vectis will bring along one of only two known 1978 Star Wars Jawa figures expected to raise more than £12,000 at auction.
Olwyn Peters, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: “We are thrilled to welcome these extremely passionate individuals to the exhibition.
“They put so much effort into their costumes and they look fantastic.
“We have already had some really positive feedback from visitors but Saturday promises to be an extra special day.”
People can have their photographs taken with the enthusiasts in return for a discretionary donation to charity.
Entry to the exhibition, which runs until November 3, is £2 for adults and £1 for children, including a free second visit. Under-fives go free.
The museum is open 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday, but last admission into the exhibition is 3.30pm.
Throughout the Invasion exhibition entry to the grounds and the rest of the museum, including the award winning Saxon Princess permanent exhibition, remains free.
